Yes just because in first year of university there was a lot of classes and homework but the actual content in the classes was not much more difficult than the leaving cert (provided you did science subjects and don’t mind maths) but its important to say that the amount of work was still less than the leaving cert. After first year the number of classes goes down but the material itself gets a little bit tougher to understand but that is all part of engineering! Because you spend so much time with the other engineering students you get to make lots of friends that will likely be there for life!

Yes it was hard when I started, but I enjoyed the challenge and I still do. It’s a good feeling to work on a problem and solve it or get the right answer to a difficult maths question.

Yes, it was a little difficult at the start. However, engineering was my choice, and I had an idea of difficulty levels in the beginning. I used to take help and suggestions from my seniors, who were doing well in their classes.

In engineering, it’s not possible for everyone to perform excellent in all the subjects. For me, there were some subjects (like embedded programming), which I did not find interesting at all, and studied those subjects just to pass the examination.

However, I study thoroughly the subjects (such as electromagnetics, wireless communications etc.), which I find interesting, and did really well in these subjects.

It was difficult at the start because you have to learn the fundamental way things work – so it was a lot more theory than practical. But as the course went on and you understood those things, I think it became easier. you were also able to choose subjects then too and go on work placement, so you got a better idea of real-life engineering

There were definitely bits that were challenging but I always really enjoyed it even though it wasn’t always easy.
